Interior design students come to Chicago to study in some of the most innovative design programs in the country. Chicago is home to Harrington College of Design, where students learn it's practically their civic duty to plan interior space and aesthetics to match a building's construction, building codes, materials, and furnishings. Columbia College features an interior architecture program that hones a designer's problem-solving capabilities to match the needs of people with cultural and artistic expression. Interior design programs are also offered at the Illinois Institute of Art and the International Academy of Design and Technology.
Career opportunities in interior design abound in Chicago! Just from 2001 to 2005, the Windy City blew away the competition with 1,760 positions in the area already and job growth in interior design as high as 18%. Through 2012, that heady growth is expected to go full steam ahead at an annual growth rate of 3%.
