Chicago is home to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the photography school currently ranked #1 in the country by the U.S. News and World Report's ranking of graduate school programs. The Art Institute grants bachelor and master degrees in photography. Columbia College is another renowned fine arts school with extensive offerings in photography.

Photography employment in the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet area is anticipating 10.99% growth between the years 2002 and 2012. However, the actual number of photographers currently working in Chicago is one of the highest in the nation.
